The year 2012 has been a momentous year for the island paradise of Boracay in Aklan. It was recently recognized by international travel magazine Travel+Leisure as the world’s best beach destination in 2012. It topped the list with a rating of 93.10, beating second-placer Bali, Indonesia. This is a big jump from Boracay’s previous ranking of 4th in the 2011 list. The ranking is based on online surveys of the magazine’s readers. Some of the best resorts in the world are located in Boracay, namely Shangri-La and Discovery Shores. But there are also many budget accommodations available. Dining options are aplenty, but the best dishes are made from fresh seafood freshly caught from the waters just of the coast. Boracay earned another accolade this year when it ranked third among the world’s best party beaches, beating Spain’s popular Ibiza and Miami’s South Beach (seventh and eighth respectively). With all these recognitions, now is the perfect time to visit or revisit the Philippines’ pride—Boracay. (more…)
